Just a short walk from main camp, North Village is designed for our Challenger campers (ages 13-15) which includes its own housing, dining, recreational and fire pit areas, air-conditioned, carpeted cabins and bathrooms within a short walking distance. (You do not register your camper as a “Challenger.” This is a programming designation on our part.)
Challengers still spend a lot of time on main camp during their skills clinics, lunch in the main dining hall and some evening programming. The Challenger program allows your camper to grow in independence, confidence and character. Our morning Crossfires challenge them to think more deeply about the kind of lives they want to live, the goals they choose to set and the kind of person they desire to be. We emphasize our motto of “Live for Others,” throughout our daily and evening programming.
Challengers stay in a cabin or yurt with 10-12 other campers and at least two cabin counselors who have undergone back ground checks, are trained in CPR and First Aid and have completed at least 100 hours of staff training. Campers and staff all follow the Rule of 3. Campers are not left alone either with each other or staff.
Staff is carefully selected from around the world to give your camper the proper supervision and appropriate interaction they need. One of the biggest take-aways we see from this age group year after year are the life long friendships developed during this special, formative time in their lives.
Challengers sign up for Skills Clinics on Sunday night with their cabins. They can pre-register for one or two of our Specialty Activities such as Water-skiing/Wake-boarding, Scuba, Horseback Riding, Mini-Bikes, and Sailing. A Specialty Activity takes the place of a Skills Clinic.
